You can write a poem!
October 31st 2007 00:54
There are many ways to write a poem. This is just one of them. Writing a poem isn't as hard as you think. Here's a little exercise we can do together to rev up those creative juices. Trust me on the process.
Step 1. Answer these 18 questions on a piece of paper. Make sure to write the corresponding number beside each of your answers.
1. What is your comfort food? How is it served? (e.g. A bowl of soup, a plate of crackers, a pot of stew, etc.)
2. What do you drink this comfort food with?
3. How do you savor this comfort food? Be as specific as possible.
4. What is your favorite time of the day?
5. What are three colors you associate with this time of day?
6. If that time of day were to greet you, what would it say? (I'm sure you can do better than "Good Morning" and "Good Evening."
)
7. Who do you like holding hands with OR who would you love to hold hands with?
8. Describe how holding hands with this person would make you feel - use three different words.
9. What scent makes you smile?
10. What two things does this scent also smell like?
11. If this scent were a person, what two words would describe it?
12. What sound makes you smile?
13. What musical instrument can you compare this sound to?
14. What time of day do you associate this sound with? Describe how the weather is too. (e.g. cold evening, sunny morning, etc.)
15. Who is your favorite family member?
16. What is one item that you are wearing right now that makes you smile?
17. Fill in the blanks: I love curling up with __________.
18. Describe happiness in ONE word.
Step 2. Substitute the numbers below with your corresponding answers.
(Your name)'s Happiness
Happiness is (1),
Perfect with (2) and savored (3).
It is the color of (4),
Hues of (5-1), (5-2) and (5-3), greeting me "(6)"
Happiness is holding hands with (7),
(8-1), (8-2), (8-3).
It is the scent of (9),

Happiness is the sound of (12),
akin to the music of (13) and (14).

Toni's Happiness
Happiness is a plate of oatmeal raisin cookies,
Perfect with a glass of milk and savored raisin by raisin, crumb to crumb.
It is the color of morning,
Hues of white, yellow and orange, greeting me "Here's to a beautiful day!"
Happiness is holding hands with my husband,
comforting, warm, safe.
It is the scent of babies,
like powder and lavender combined, innocent and joyful.
Happiness is the sound of family laughing,
akin to the music of wind chimes and warm afternoons.
It is Mother, a crystal bracelet that glitters in the sun, curling up with a good book.
Happiness is divine.
