Write about letting go. (Why do I keep hanging on?)
January 20th 2012 13:11
I let her go today.
"Why do you keep shutting yourself out?"
Is what she asks when I don't call her.
"Nothing here is my fault!"
Is what she says when things are breaking down.
"You cause your own unhappiness."
Is what she says when I share my problems.
"If it weren't for you, this never would have happened."
Is what she says when things are breaking down some more.
"I don't know what's going on with you anymore."
Is what she says when she doesn't understand me.
"This is your fifth strike."
Is what she says when there's nobody else to blame but me.
I let her go today.
She doesn't know it yet.
"Just because I don't ask questions doesn't mean I shut myself out at life."
"It takes two to tango."
"I cause my own happiness."
"Again, it takes two to tango."
"If it weren't for you, this never would have happened."
"You don't listen anymore."
"I'm outta here."
Are things I should have said.
Are things I should say.
Are things I must say.
But I won't. I know I won't.
I can't.
Not yet.
I know I should let go.
Why do I keep hanging on?

To let go isn't to forget, not to think about or ignore. It doesn't leave feelings of anger, jealousy or regret. Letting go isn't about winning or losing. It's not about pride, not about how you appear, not about obsessing or dwelling on the past. It isn't about blocking memories or thinking sad thoughts, it doesn't leave emptiness, hurt or sadness. Its not about giving in or giving up. It isn't about loss or defeat. To let go is to cherish the memories, to overcome and move on. It is having an open mind and confidence in the future. Letting go is learning and experiencing and growing. To let go is to be thankful for the experiences that made you laugh, made you cry and made you grow. It is about all that you have, all that you had and all that you will soon gain. Letting go is having the courage to accept change, the strength to keep moving. Letting go is growing up. It is realizing that the heart can sometimes be the most potent remedy. To let go is to open a door and to clear a path and set yourself free.
