I was strolling in a beautiful park, I happen to pass this gentleman dressed so elegantly in a suit.

Sitting by a bench in deep thought contemplating on something I can only guess as anxiety, maybe panic or apprehension, judging from his facial expression.

I hear voices as I go about my walk. I turn my head around to check the guy as another gentleman puts his arm around him and I see a nice smile appear on his face.

Ahh...last minute jitters.

When Justin rocked up at my front door in Cook Street the house was too small for a rebellious teenager. The photograph of me changing into my first ever piece of real lingerie- a black lacy G- is backlit by a collage of Kurt Cobain posters. I’d already been a member of the International Socialist Organisation for two years but there I am, elegant makeup and panty hose, standing before my box bed with my aunt sighing that I look like a porcelain doll.

The living room was a place where I listened to Fleetwood Mac records on Sunday nights when my parents were out. I lit candles and lay on the floor in the dark full of mystery, wondering if I would ever stop brooding. That’s where I began but when I turn the page I look so uncomfortable, flanked by the men in my life: my father and my grandfather. They’ve never seen to eye to eye but I notice that in this photograph, they are both beaming.

Justin and I only dated four months. I taught him how to make love to a woman properly, defying my ugly duckling schoolgirl reflection. The whole night could have been another social cliché designed to serve my disdain for pastels and prefects but afterwards, at the post party, my grammar boy boyfriend told me with complete earnest that I was the most beautiful girl of the evening.
