Who have you made happy today?
July 14th 2009 10:41
Passing on happiness can be done in a lot of ways, whether it's as simple as a smile or as grand as a marriage proposal. You not only make another feel good, you feel good yourself.
My Sister and the Alien
"The baby's moving!," I exclaimed. I could feel the baby tumbling around in my tummy, and it felt awesome.
"Ew," my younger sister grimaced.
"Don't you want to feel him?," I asked. "C'mon!"
She hesitated then placed her hand on my tummy. After a few moments, I felt my baby move. She let out a shriek and took her hand away quickly. "Alien!!! It felt like an alien!!!"
I rolled my eyes. "I know, I know."
"He's like the Loch Ness monster," she added, still cringing.
I wanted to bop her on the head. "But it's cute, isn't it?" I asked.
She just made a face and smiled. I laughed and continued rubbing my tummy. Her eyes stayed on my tummy, even if her hands stayed put on her lap. It was the first time she felt a baby move inside someone's tummy, and I could tell she was transfixed by the waves on my tummy.
She may have grimaced but her eyes were smiling. Perhaps it was the first time she felt she was really an Auntie.
The Little Boy and the Glass Window
I was eating my frozen yogurt absent-mindedly, staring at a window display of iPods, when a little boy on the other side of the glass suddenly appeared in front of me.
He looked like he was about three, and I could tell he was naughty.
He pressed his face against the glass, perhaps trying to gross me out.
I looked at him and made a face.
He took a step back and giggled. Maybe that wasn't the reaction he expected from an adult. He pressed his face against the glass again, his lips in an even weirder shape.
I smiled at him and made an ugly face again.
He giggled.
Then my husband stepped out of the shop, it was time for us to go. I waved goodbye to the little boy. He smiled and waved back at me, my little glass window playmate.
