Hi! My name is Toni and this is my blog on writing prompts. Sometimes inspiration strikes me anywhere, sometimes I badly need a jumpstart. This blog helps with those jumpstarts, when you need a little push. Hopefully the writing prompts open your mind further to new ideas and help encourage you into writing more. A little writing help never hurt!

What's your dream?

July 13th 2009 10:06
Step into my dream...

Sunlight is streaming through the window. It is time to wake up.

I push back the covers and stretch my arms, careful not to wake my husband up. I gently pull the curtains back to let the sun beams kiss our wooden floors good morning. Our bedroom is softly bathed with the sun's kisses now. I walk barefoot into the bathroom to wash my face and put my robe on, eager to start the day.

Then off to my little kitchen I go. It's not that big, but it's just right for a family of four. The kitchen island is filled with all kinds of breads and fruit, and I make space to prepare breakfast. The stove is heated up now, and a meal of asparagus omelet and fried rice for the husband is quickly done. A bowl of cereal with fresh strawberries and blueberries for the little boy is prepared. Two plates of apple slices and french toast are ready for me and the little girl. The sun is kissing the kitchen good morning too. It is time for me to give my kisses.

I kiss my husband good morning and whisper that breakfast is ready. I enter my little boy's room, gently nudge the toy truck he hugged all night away, and kiss him hello. I enter my little girl's room and smile as I see she fell asleep wearing her plastic tiara again, then kiss her good day. The three of them are up in awhile, walking barefoot into the kitchen, yawning, sighing, smiling. The sun kisses their messy bedheads good morning.

The day follows with the four of us preparing to stay in for the day. Sundays are family days after all. Little boy and little girl play in the yard. My husband sets up the barbecue pit. I make lemonade non-stop for the ever-thirsty trio, in between sitting on the lounge chair while catching up on my reading. The day is filled with children's giggles, my husband's singing and the rustling of the pages of my reading.

Soon the sun is kissing us good night. A stew has been set on the stove and soon it will be done. The kids are all clean from their day of play, and they are seated in the living room, sprawled on the rug, reading their books of choice while waiting for dinner. My husband helps set the table.

It is bedtime. Little boy is in his pajamas, his toy truck tucked under the sheets too. I kiss him good night. Little girl is in her nightdress, and she wears her tiara again. She asks for a bedtime story and I tell her a story my own Mother told me. She falls asleep holding my hand. I kiss her on the nose and carefully exit her room. My husband is waiting in bed, and we chat and we cuddle till the other yawns.

The moon's light is streaming through the window. It is time to say good night.

This is my dream. What's yours?
