What's in your hot toddy?

I came down with the flu this week. A nasty, nasty thing the flu is. One of my friends suggested I try a Hot Toddy: hot tea with whisky, honey and a lemon slice. I've never had a Hot Toddy before. Upon searching it on Google though, it apparently is one of the most popular ways to help treat a cold and fever. So I gave it a whirl.
I made a mug of piping hot lemon tea, put in a shot of brandy and added a teaspoon of Splenda. Stirred well. I had no honey at home, no lemon slices hence the lemon tea, and brandy is interchangeable with whisky.
The smell was fierce at first. I'm not a brandy drinker. But after a few sips, it grew on me. It looks like I have a new bedtime drink.
What's in your hot toddy? There's debate in some sites saying rum is better as an alcohol for a hot toddy. Others say it's whisky. Others put in cloves. Others slide in a little butter.
What's your hot toddy like? Have you ever had one? If not, do you think you'll ever try one?
