I think he's waiting for his long lost son to arrive by train. He's not sure whether or not he will actually turn up. He is filled with sorrow and regret and it would be an immense relief were he given the chance to beg forgiveness. I think the son will come, silent (nervous) but looking his father straight in the eye.

I've been waiting for my time to come but I think it has been waiting for me, too.
