To the tune of the Jeopardy theme song
October 19th 2007 00:00
Tick, tock, tick, tock.
Seven more minutes and you'll get another tardy mark. That's the third time this week.
You run through the human traffic jam, thinking that if people-dodging were a sport, you'd be in second place. That's because if you were in first place, you wouldn't be late three times in a row.
A crumpling sound catches your attention as you start climbing the stairs to your office building. Beneath your sneaker is a creased piece of paper, once balled up but now flattened by your weight.
You see the hasty scrawl of a seemingly masculine penmanship through the folds. Curiosity overcomes you, and you shake out your squished find.
"Oct. 19. 9 am sharp. Coffee shop on Timmons and Third. Red tie. Sun Faded Chucks, green camo. See you."
Three minutes to 9 am. Three minutes to another tardy warning. You look down the street and see the familiar brown awning of the coffee shop.
Tick, tock.
*****
What would your character do? If s/he goes to work, will he be nagged by unsatisfied curiosity or will s/he just let it be? If s/he goes to the coffee shop, what would s/he expect to see? Who wrote the note?
How would your story progress?
