The Good Wife's Guide
February 18th 2008 05:24
Highlights from "The good wife's guide":
"Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal ready, on time for his return. This is a way of letting him know that you have been thinking about him and are concerned about his needs..."
"Greet him with a warm smile and show sincerity in your desire to please him."
"Don't complain if he's late home for dinner or even if he stays out all night..."
"A good wife always knows her place."
Ooooohkay.
This was an article from a magazine called Housekeeping Monthly way back in 1955. I got it from an e-mail. Click on the image to enlarge. Read through it and tell me what you think!
How far have women come since then? How far have men come? Hmmm. Discuss.

I've seen this one before and here's the kicker.
I've been married for 8 years now to a wonderful man who treats me like the 21st century woman that I am. And because he is so good to me, I don't mind ensuring that dinner is warm for him when he gets home because he'll give me a foot rub later.
I don't give him a hard time for being late because there will be a time when I'm late.
I'll happily greet him with a smile and ask him how his day was....and then I'll bitch about mine
So there is definitely give and take in my marriage.
That whole bit about preparing the children is a bit much. My children are not trophies.
As for clearing away the clutter....well I think the children should do that....you know, teach them to clean up after themselves....important life skill I think.
I certainly don't need to learn it, I already know it.
It's a good little snapshot piece of how it used to be.
Love & stuff

I also know some guys from certain ethnic backgrounds whose family tradition dictates that the kitchen is a woman's domain. I notice that these men have trouble finding partners.
Having said all that, I love to cook for my boyfriend and to do so with a smile on my face. I do believe it is a way of letting him know how special he is to me and he sees it that way too. It is by no mean a regular occurrence, though!

Well, my grandmother, mother, and mother-in-law all lived through that period and if they'd seen that article they'd have fallen over laughing.
They can all recognise an article written by a man who's fantasizing....

Bollucks to that and to the modern view of many children - many fathers... full swing... Full TILT...ding ding thanks for playing.
Now put the prozac, scotch and Good Guides down and ask your intuition what you want to do. What makes you happy?

Oh well, if all else fails, I can always fall back on "being a little gay", even though I am above average height.
The sad thing is, I doubt very much this was written by a man.
