That Before Sunrise Romance

""There's wind that blows in from the north
And it says that loving takes this course
Come here, come here
No I'm not impossible to touch
I have never wanted you so much
Come here, come here
Have I never laid down by your side
Baby, let's forget about this pride
Come here, come here
Well I'm in no hurry
Don't have to run away this time
I know you're timid.
But it's gonna be all right this time..."

I remember watching this film and falling in love with it immediately. I saw it on a Laser Disc (LASER DISC!), was seated in a huge red bean bag, my only companion a White Russian and some cheese on crackers. I was in college.
This made me reflect on my own theories and philosophies on love. It made me wonder about soulmates. It made me wonder whether I would ever meet someone I'd have such a strong connection with even if it was a brief encounter. I had boyfriends up till that time, sure, but they didn't seem as interesting as Jesse and Celine's potent connection.
Of course, this was a film. It was Hollywood. It was a script. Real life has no script. You just go with the flow.
And so I did, with the movie at the back of my mind whenever I'd travel, whenever I'd meet someone new. I never had that Before Sunrise romance. It did inspire me to take risks in love, that communication in a relationship really is key, that you could meet that one person who could fill you completely at the most random of moments. And I did meet the love of my life, even if it wasn't in a train going to Vienna.

Still, it makes you wonder, doesn't it? It makes you wonder about those relationships that never quite solidified because of distance, those relationships that were as spectacular as fireworks but would fizzle out shortly after. It makes you wonder if there was someone in the world wishing you were their Before Sunrise romance. I wonder about that sometimes.
