Hi! My name is Toni and this is my blog on writing prompts. Sometimes inspiration strikes me anywhere, sometimes I badly need a jumpstart. This blog helps with those jumpstarts, when you need a little push. Hopefully the writing prompts open your mind further to new ideas and help encourage you into writing more. A little writing help never hurt!

Tell me about your wedding day

January 27th 2008 07:17

Did it rain? Was it sweet? Was your bride's gown white? Did you wear a tux? Were you married at a beach? Did you go barefoot? Did your groomsman lose the rings? Did you have cold feet? Did you see each other before the ceremony? Was it in a church? A garden? Was it grand or intimate? What was the highlight of the day? Did you go straight to your honeymoon after? Share, share! Do share your wedding story with us!

Oh wow,Toni, the memories of my wedding, my pregnant bride to be, the drunken best man tossing up his cookies during the kiss the bride part, the pastor making goo goo eyes at the maid of honor and my future father in law with his double barrel shotgun safely ensconced in the mid point of my spine, the knuckle dragging uncles assisting me down the aisle in coveralls and handcuffs at high noon in Duck Butte Mesa, Arizona. Lord how the sweat and tears flowed that fine day.

God, it all still brings tears to my eyes just reminiscing about it or it could've been that my shoe and hand cuffs were to tight. The stench of home made hooch and rotted teeth riding on the collective breath of the brides party and the absence of members from my family may have been part of the problem. Well, whatever, I cried my eyes out.

Ah, the good times that were had by all, especially when the brawl broke out amongst the eligible bachelorette's for the possession of the bridal bouquet, the pulled hair, the ripped clothing and exposed body parts was truly memorable. In celebration we meet annually to replay the bachelorette brawl and drink until we barf our brains out.

Now, my second wedding was even more of an adventure, y'see we....

All I remember is giving a lift to two girls hitching along Whitehorse Road the day before. During the conversation in the car, I mentioned I was getting married the next day.
"Oh, don't do that - that's a bad idea" they said.
I still wish I had listened.

Well, not married yet, but I am thinking on our wedding day it'll be.... walking into the registry office, sign our names, kiss and then off backpacking the world we go!

My wedding day was the most romantic moment of my life. There were only 37 guests, in my mother and fathers home, a shotgun wedding so to speak because my husband was fighting for custody of his son, and with his disabilities I did not want his ex to take advantage of him, so I opted to not have a big wedding and instead we had a small ceremony.

It's funny how things turn out.

My husband wore a black western style tux, with a black cowboy hat and boots. I have a thing for cowboys lol. I wore a ten dollar wedding dress from Sears sent to me by my friend that fit me perfectly. We wrote our own vows, and nobody had dry eyes. Then my husband got down on one knee and placed a cross necklace around my five year old son and made him a promise saying he was marrying him too, promised to be there, love him and always be his friend and best second dad he could be.

Yep I bawled. It truly was the most wonderful day of my life, with my moms homemade chili, buns and meat, cheese and crackers, homemade wine. Cost of the wedding: 860$ Cost of the outfits we wore 30$ Wine donated, food donated, cake donated, pictures taken by everyone with disposable cameras.

Worth not having thousands of dollars and going into debt to please a group of people on the most important day of your life???? PRICELESS.

JP: That is a very memorable moment indeed!!! Just goes to show it is the beautiful moments that make up a wonderful wedding, not the fancy tiaras and wine glasses.
