Chasing Rainbows

Write a story inspired by this picture.

I want to chase rainbows, she says. Do I have her petticoat?, she asks. I nod. Do I have her sneakers?, she asks. I nod. She grabs her magic wand (construction paper shaped like a star taped onto an old spatula).

We need to go chase rainbows, she insists as she pulls me out the door. The sun will set and they'll go to bed, she adds as she runs down the garden, her eyes to the sky.

I don't have the heart to tell her that a rainbow is just a refraction of the sun's rays by the rain. Instead I run after her, holding the pink bucket she says we will use to hold the rainbows in.

I keep the bucket close to me.

How does this image make you feel?



It makes me feel sad. It reminds me of unfulfilled wishes. I guess this image could portray hope, but I choose the more melodramatic interpretation. That's only because I feel some of my wishes just get lost in the wind.

Write about the grossest thing you've ever eaten. Write about how you can't do without Spam. Write about the weirdest food you've tried and ended up loving. Write about the foods you were forced to eat when you were young. Write about food you would love to try but have no guts to do so.
