Pets make great best friends

Write about a special relationship you have with your pets.
"She dumped me. Again." I threw my backpack across the room.
My best friend was seated on my bed, watching me quietly.
"Why am I so dumb, Marie? That's the third time this year," I said angrily.
Marie shook her head.
"Right, it's the fifth time. I'm in denial," I groaned. I sat down beside her on my bed. "I'm probably the most stupid guy you've ever met."
Marie looked away.
"Great, thanks for the affirmation," I moaned. It was always like this. I'd get dumped by that girl and I'd come whining to Marie. I was getting tired of it, and I think Marie was too.
Marie looked up at me and blinked. Then she put her head on my lap and snuggled close.
"I love you too," I whispered, stroking her head gently. "I don't know what I'd do without you."
She purred peacefully, and a few moments after we were both asleep. Best friends in bed.
