Hi! My name is Toni and this is my blog on writing prompts. Sometimes inspiration strikes me anywhere, sometimes I badly need a jumpstart. This blog helps with those jumpstarts, when you need a little push. Hopefully the writing prompts open your mind further to new ideas and help encourage you into writing more. When was the last time you felt invisible?

I can see you, but you can't see me.



Because I sure feel nobody sees me, really sees me.

I am a direct object of indifference.

Hence I become, no, I AM...

...invisible.

When I met my partner's staunch Catholic, traditional Italian grandmother I had a glimpse into an old world I'd only ever read about. In group conversations, Nonna would make eye contact with every person present except me. She would not speak to me, nor look at me. If she wished to query my actions, she would ask somebody else about me, in front of me. When I first met her, I presented her with a gift which I never saw her open- perhaps she threw it in the bin. All because I am her grandson's unmarried girlfriend. Who would have thought that an 82 year old woman could make me feel like a whore without ever once saying so!

Hey Toni,

Nonna lives on the other side of the country so I have only had the pleasure of her company for the two weeks I spent with her upon our first meeting. I suspect that although she ignored me so deliberately when I was around, I cannot be too far from her thoughts when she thinks of her grandson. She probably prays that he won't end up marrying me! As you can imagine, I am not holding my breath until the next visit. But I will encourage my boyfriend to spend as much time with her as he can- does that sound weird?!
