Hi! My name is Toni and this is my blog on writing prompts. Sometimes inspiration strikes me anywhere, sometimes I badly need a jumpstart. This blog helps with those jumpstarts, when you need a little push. Hopefully the writing prompts open your mind further to new ideas and help encourage you into writing more. A little writing help never hurt!

Sing me to sleep

April 20th 2010 15:31
Write about lullabies.

Photo credit: First Smile by Ivan Makarov

A lullaby is a song to children to help them ease into sleeping. The repetitive melody of this soft, soothing song usually helps make kids sleepy (sometimes even the singer).

Do you remember any lullabies sung to you as a child? Do you sing lullabies to babies?

What is hope?

August 29th 2009 06:01

Hope is a heartbeat.

Hope is the sun's rays filtering through the curtains.

Hope is a breeze.

Hope is someone saying "Hello" on the other end of the line.

Hope is the baby kicking in your tummy.

Hope is holding hands.

Hope is laughter.

Hope is a home-cooked meal.

Hope is breathing.

Hope is good faith.

Hope is the green, green grass.

What is hope for you?

What's a lazy day for you like?

August 15th 2009 08:05

Weeds. There were too many weeds.

She knew it was only a matter of time before her mother yelled at her for not mowing the lawn. That it was only a matter of time before her father told her to go get a job -- again. And again. That soon she would curse herself for not mowing when she stumbles drunk into her front lawn and steps on dog poo she didn't see.

Stuff. There is too much stuff to do.

The summer heat was unbearable anyway. She brought the ice cold glass of Coke to her cheek. The fan buzzed helplessly, not giving enough air but cooling her feet. A rerun of a rerun of "Family Ties" was on television and she listened to the funny dialogue. In between laughs, she looked out the window and watched the sun set. And rise. And set.

The lawn could wait till tomorrow. There was still too many things to think about this summer. She put on her earphones, turned on her iPod, and took a nap.

This is a silhouette of...

June 22nd 2009 07:30

It looks like a man in a ponytail holding up a giant jackfruit while his toolbelt's about to fall off.

Or a really thin cleaning lady, her water spray tucked behind her while she carries a huge feather duster.

What do you see?
