My Day Job Versus My Passion
February 28th 2008 10:10
Piper looked at her newly acquired business card. It had her name in a clean business-like font, with the words "Regional Sales Manager" right beneath it. She just got promoted. She has celebrated. She has chosen a new carpet for her new office. She just got the keys to her new car.
But something bugged her about this business card.
She got a black marker, crossed out her new position and scribbled on her card. After a few seconds, she grinned, placed her scribbled on card in her pocket, and stepped out of the room with a spring in her step.
On her office desk sat stacks of her new business cards. But in her pocket was a card with the her name and a hastily scrawled "Cartoonist Extraordinaire."
While Piper knew she was a manager by profession, she felt she was an artist at heart.

Do you wish your business card said something else about you?

I think I'm nearly the same as 'Piper' - except I can't draw.

Eyecatching and a little outside the square, prompts the recipient to ask what is it you do exactly while at the same time (in your own surreal mind at least) gives you a sense of free spirit to say whatever it is you feel (or would like to appear on it at that particular nano second of your life).
Besides - 'pole dancer' probably doesn't look particularly good in a business situation

I have two business cards. One from my day job, that says IT Specialist A/NZ Information Technology. (no, I can't fix your computer)
The other, which I made up with the printing company, says "Freelance Writer"

Hazel: Travel writer would be great too! At least you're a traveller AND you get paid.
Ann: Very creative!
Amy: You'd make a fantastic freelance writer. A fabulous travel writer!!! And travel consultant? That's the first time I've heard of such work but it is very appealing indeed.
Peter Yang: Why thank you! What is your passion?

I got too many.
Do picking up girls count as one of them?
Can't really do that at work, can't I?

It would be kinda funny to have one that said "shit kicker" or "talks in movies" or "mrs. johnny depp understudy" though, just to see the look on people's faces...
