A 31st Birthday Sort of Reflection
July 21st 2008 09:14
How did you celebrate your 31st birthday?
Or if you haven't celebrated it yet, where do you hope to be in life when you turn 31?
I turn 31 next week. Like most people, I start doing those little self-reflections once a birthday is nearing. What good did I do the past year? Did I grow? Am I in the same rut? Stuff like that. God knows there are so many things I wished I had achieved by age 30, but for particular reasons they didn't happen. You just deal with it and move on.
When I was 18, I imagined being married with 3 kids by the time I was 31. With a house and a white picket fence. Y'know, technicolored dreams like that. I didn't get that full dream, but I'm okay. Over the years priorities change and you start understanding more and more about what you want from life.
I'll write a proper birthday reflection post some other time. Or maybe I won't. If I don't, this sentence will sum the past year up: I'm blessed and can't wait to see what else comes my way.
Life doesn't always turn out the way you want it to. But when you learn how to embrace life as it is, life becomes more colorful and much, much more meaningful.

At 31 I had my 3 kids which was surprising because I didn't expect to get married until I was 30.
When I was 24 I started dating Mr M. He and I were only dating for a couple of months and I was planning on going to London but he pulled me aside and simply said, "stay".
And so I did. Before I knew it I was married and then pregnant. I didn't plan on falling pregnant that soon into our marriage but there you have it.
Life is certainly unpredictable and largely beyond our control I think.
I turn 35 next year. That's another "what the hell have I done with my life" birthday.
Love & stuff
